Geometric Abstraction Prints
This is a series of digital works designed in spreadsheet software. To achieve a high resolution image the designs were reproduced in photo editing software.
The process began in 2014 with 'Multiplication' and 'Sums - closer together' when I was moving house from New Zealand to the UK. With most of my belongings in transit, using spreadsheet software on my laptop was a good way of putting down ideas. In 2025 the series was finally printed on paper.
This series represents a confluence of inspiration from colourists such as Italian Renaissance's Sandro Botticelli, all the way to Pop Art, Optical and Geometric Abstraction, and lessons in composition taught by my A Level Art teacher at Barnsley College, Mike K. Additionally 'Addition, subtraction' is influenced by New Zealand artist Gordon Walters who masterfully combined Op Art with a motif of nature's frond, highly symbolic in Maori culture due to the proliferation of giant fern in the country's landscape.
