About
Joanna Norman 1976
As a visual artist my interests are broad, covering colour theory, abstraction and geometry as well as movement, atmosphere and nature. My materials and methods range from traditional drawing, painting and sewing to digital mediums. The works are responses to my surroundings both the natural world and man-made and aim to make the best use of the resource and visual stimulus available at a given location and situation. I am influenced by a host of contemporary and 20th century artists. Often diverse methods are combined to produce one individual piece. One example of a combination of styles is a geometric seascape.
I grew up in Barnsley, in the north of England and studied art at secondary school. I went on to study Social Psychology at Loughborough University and after graduating as a Bachelor of Science, pursued a career in business systems working in New Zealand for a few years before later returning to the UK.
I completed BA Fine Art modules in Drawing and Painting at Sheffield College and Open College of the Arts and in 2023 was awarded funding from Arts Council England under the scheme Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP).
This website showcases the diverse subject matter and materials I work with but may not be a complete representation of the full catalogue of projects. Feedback is welcome, please send it using the Contact page.
